ELI Orientation - Spring 2024

Welcome to the English Language Institute at the College of Staten Island / The City University of New York!!! Please read important information regarding the orientation sessions we have for our in-person programs.

Spring 2024 - Daytime/on-campus

Monday, January 15, 2024

Any time

Last day to enter the U.S. (F and J visa holders only)

  • Campus closed (Martin Luther King Jr. Day).

  • F-1 students are recommended to enter the U.S. by this date. Contact ELI if your start date on your I-20 is different.

Check-in

9:00 AM

  • Check-in at Building 2A, office 206 (ELI office at the Center for Global Engagement or international office). See map below.

  • Bring your passport/I-20 or DS-2019/documents/application forms if registration is made for the first time.

  • Program payment: Please come to the office if payment has not been made yet. Make sure your credit card is authorized for (international) payment to cover the complete program fee(s). Other payment methods: check, money order, cash, or bank transfer.

  • Bring health insurance documents/payment (F-1/J-1 students only).

  • Complete emergency contact form.

  • Placement test: If you haven’t taken the placement test, you can either come to the office and ask for the test link or we can email it to you.

  • If you already paid the application fee and tuition fee and brought the documents mentioned above, there is no need to show up in our office.

  • If the student drives to school, the car will need an online parking pass. Registration and parking payment can be seen in this link: https://www.csi.cuny.edu/campus-life/transportation-parking/parking-services

Dolphin Card (CSI University Card)

10:30 AM

  • Students have their photo taken for the Dolphin Card (University Card).

  • Bring any photo ID (passport, driver's license, national ID, etc.)

  • The Dolphin Card allows students to have access to the CSI library, borrow books, access the sports area, academic events, ELI field trips to museums (some museums request it to gain free access as a group).

Orientation & First day of class.
Wednesday, January 17

  • 9 am - 9:30 am: Orientation - ELI will explain information regarding classes, schedule, academic structure, evaluation, services open to ELI students, visa status and guidelines, etc.

  • 9:30 am - 11:30 am: Start of classes (Reading/Writing/Grammar).

  • 11:30 am - 12:30 pm: Break - Students who did not get their Dolphin Cards can go to 3A-106 to get their photo taken.

  • 12:30 pm - 2:30 pm:  Classes (conversation and TOEFL)
